UN38.3 refers to section 38.3 on lithium battery testing in the manual of tests and criteria prepared by the United Nations Committee of experts on the transport of dangerous goods.

UN38.3 is the battery safety performance test report, and carries out a full set of safety performance tests on various types of batteries according to various domestic and foreign standards, so as to ensure the product quality and safety for each battery manufacturer, meet various standards, and improve the export capacity.

1) UN38.3 test is a mandatory test to ensure that lithium batteries can be safely transported by air and sea.

2) The Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the specification for air transportation of lithium batteries to all air transport companies, which clearly requires that lithium batteries must pass the UN38.3 test by a laboratory recognized by CNAs before being transported by air or sea. Airlines must receive the UN38.3 qualification report and transportation certificate of lithium batteries before receiving the lithium batteries.
