GS certification

GS means "geprufte Sicherheit" (safety certified) in German and "German safety". GS certification is a voluntary certification based on the German product safety law (GPGs) and tested in accordance with the European Union unified standard EN or the German industrial standard DIN. It is a recognized German safety certification mark in the European market. German GS certification

GS introduction

What products can apply for GS certification

Products that can apply for GS certification include:

1. Household appliances, such as refrigerator, washing machine, kitchen utensils, etc.

2. Household machinery.

3. Sporting goods.

4. Household electronic equipment, such as audio-visual equipment.

5. Electrical and electronic office equipment, such as copier, fax machine, shredder, computer, printer, etc.

6. Industrial machinery, experimental measuring equipment.

7. Other safety related products such as bicycles, helmets, ladders, furniture, etc.

GS safety certification mark

1. GS mark is a safety certification mark issued by TUV, VDE and other institutions authorized by the German Ministry of labor.

GS mark is a safety sign accepted by customers in Europe. Generally, the sales unit price of GS certified products is higher and more popular.

2. EC CE regulation, 1997.1.1 Start control "low voltage command (LVD)". The GS already contains all the requirements of the low voltage directive (LVD). Therefore, after obtaining the GS mark, TUV will issue the CE certificate (COC) of LVD of the product for free. TUV South Germany group and TUV Rheinland's certificate after 1997 include the LVD Certificate in the GS certificate. The manufacturer obtained the LVD certificate when applying for GS.

3. Requirements of GS certification for products and documents: - products shall pass the type test of European safety standards- The product structure shall meet the standard requirements- The instructions (in German and English) shall comply with the standards- Structure diagram, circuit diagram, parts list and other English documents prepared according to TUV requirements. Product testing will be carried out according to the parameters provided in these documents.

4. GS certification has strict requirements on the quality assurance system of the factory, and the factory shall be subject to review and annual inspection: - the factory is required to establish its own quality assurance system in accordance with ISO9000 system standards when delivering goods in batches. The factory shall at least have its own quality control system, quality records and other documents and sufficient production and inspection capacity- Before issuing the GS certificate, the new factory shall be reviewed and qualified before issuing the GS certificate- After the certificate is issued, the factory shall be reviewed at least once a year. No matter how many TUV marks the factory applies for, the factory only needs one review.

GS certification issued by TUV

GS certification scope

1. Household appliances, such as refrigerator, washing machine, kitchen utensils, etc.

2. Household machinery.

3. Sporting goods.

4. Household electronic equipment, such as audio-visual equipment.

5. Electrical and electronic office equipment, such as copier, fax machine, shredder, computer, printer, etc.

6. Industrial machinery, experimental measuring equipment.

7. Other safety related products such as bicycles, helmets, ladders, furniture, etc.

GS certification process

1) First meeting: through the first meeting, the testing organization or agency will explain the specific certification procedures and relevant standards to the applicant's product engineer, and provide the required documents and forms.

2) Application: the applicant shall submit documents that meet the requirements. For electrical products, it is necessary to submit documents such as the general assembly drawing, electrical schematic diagram, bill of materials, product use or use and installation instructions, and explanation of differences between series models.

3) Technical meeting: after the testing organization has checked the applicant's documents, it will arrange a technical meeting with the applicant's technicians.

4) Sample test: the test will be carried out in accordance with the applicable standards, which can be carried out in the manufacturer's laboratory or any laboratory of the inspection agency stationed in various countries.

5) Factory inspection: GS certification requires safety related procedure inspection on the production site.

6) Issue GS certificate.

GS certification cycle

Generally speaking, the length of time depends on whether the product needs to be modified or the speed at which the manufacturer submits the required product documents. Generally speaking, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks.

GS certification fee

The fee includes one-time license fee, factory inspection fee and annual certificate fee. The specific number will be determined according to the product category and the required tests. After receiving the required documents submitted by the applicant, the certification authority will provide you with price reference. The price will vary according to the market policy and credibility of each certification authority.

Relationship between GS and LVD

EC CE regulation, 1997.1.1 Start control "Low Voltage Directive (LVD)".

GS certified factory inspection requirements

Role of GS certification

The GS mark indicates that the use safety of the product has passed the test of an independent agency with credibility. Although GS mark is not mandatory by law, it can indeed make manufacturers subject to strict German (European) product safety law in case of accidents caused by product failure. Therefore, GS logo is a powerful market tool, which can enhance customers' confidence and purchase desire. Although GS is a German standard, most European countries agree. Moreover, while meeting the GS certification, the product will also meet the CE mark requirements of the European community. Unlike CE, GS mark has no mandatory legal requirements. However, as the safety awareness has gone deep into ordinary consumers, an electrical appliance with GS mark may have greater competitiveness than ordinary products in the market.
