BSMI is the abbreviation of "bureau of standards, metrology and inspection" in English by the Bureau of standards and inspection of the Ministry of economic affairs of Taiwan. According to the announcement of the Ministry of economic affairs of Taiwan, from July 1, 2005, products entering Taiwan should be subject to electromagnetic compatibility and safety regulations.

BSMI certification is divided into the following three certification methods according to different products:

1. Type approval batch by batch inspection

2. Verify login

3. Conformity sound

Its authentication mode is:

BSMI certification in Taiwan, China is mandatory. It has requirements for EMC and safety. However, BSMI currently has no factory inspection, but it must comply with the regulations of the Bureau of standards. Therefore, the certification mode of BSMI is: product inspection + registration supervision.

If your products fall within the following scope, BSMI certification is required for sales in Taiwan:

1. Mandatory commodity inspection mark (CI mark): electrical products (such as household electrical products), electronic products (such as information equipment and entertainment audio-visual equipment products), mechanical products (such as electric tool equipment), chemical products (such as tires and toys).

2. CNS Mark: industrial products, building materials, wires, household appliances, automobile and locomotive parts, industrial raw materials, or products of competitors that have been marked with Chinese characters.

3. Voluntary product verification mark (VPC mark): important parts and components of safety regulations, digital machine box, lamp holder, battery charger, restricted hazardous substances, lithium battery, vehicle electromagnetic compatibility, sports and fitness equipment, etc.

BSMI application methods: there are currently three application methods.

1、 There are two types of type approval:

1. Type approval (emc+safety), 178 electronic and electrical products need to apply for such approval from January 1, 2004. Applicable standards: emc+safety, and the documents to be provided include (application for product type approval, company or factory license, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagram and user manual, and technical documents of safety regulations). Validity period of the certificate: three years, which can be extended once.

2. EMC type approval (replacing the original EMC application) will be enforced from November 1st, 2002. Applicable products: 61 electronic and electrical products only have EMI requirements, and 124 electronic and electrical products only need emi+ safety report (if the product has safety requirements). Applicable standards: only EMI. The documents to be provided include (electromagnetic compatibility type approval application, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic compatibility, block diagram and operation manual).

2、 Certification registration

Enforcement date: not yet published, applicable standard: emi+ safety regulations. The documents to be provided include (application for product type approval, license of the company or factory, test report, technical documents for electromagnetic compatibility: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagram and operation manual, as well as technical documents of safety regulations and declaration of conformity). Validity of certificate: three years, which can be extended once

3、 Declaration of conformity

Enforcement date: January 18th, 2002. Applicable products: 19 kinds of information technology equipment components. Applicable standard: cns13438 (onlyemc). Documents to be provided include (Declaration of conformity, test report, technical documents: photos, labels, parts with electromagnetic interference, block diagram and operation manual). No certificate.

For electronic and electrical products, the characteristics of the three application methods provided by the Bureau of standards are as follows:

1. The declaration of conformity is only applicable to the parts of some information technology equipment (please refer to the product description on the website of the Bureau of standards and inspection).

2. The manufacturer of the product shall decide to apply for certification registration or type approval.

3. The difference between certification registration and type approval lies in:

1、 Inspection method: if the product has obtained type approval, the inspection of customers will be simplified. For products applying for certification and registration, customers will not be checked, and the market random sampling method will be adopted.

2、 Fee difference: the application fee for certification and registration is higher than that for formal approval, and an annual fee is charged. There is no annual fee for type approval.
